Follow the Marshall County Board of Zoning Appeals

The office of the Plan Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals is responsible for developing the long range vision of development and growth in the Marshall County. The office is also responsible for developing those tools and ordinances to guide the county towards that vision. Most people would recognize these tools as the Marshall County Zoning ordinance.

This is the office where you would get a building permit, special use or a variance if you live in areas not controlled by the City of Plymouth and the towns of Argos, Bourbon, Bremen or Culver. Lapaz is covered by this office

Plan Commission Responsibilities

Ordinances

Re-Zoning - If you wish to change your properties zoning a hearing would be made to the Plan Commission which would make a recommendation to the County Commissioners. The Commissioners have the final decision.
Ordinances – Any changes to the Marshall County Zoning Ordinances are made by the Plan Commission with a recommendation to the County Commissioners, which have the final authority.

Subdivisions

The Plan Commission is the final authority on subdivisions. If the roads are to be dedicated to the county, the roads must be approved by the County Commissioners

Board of Zoning Appeals Responsibilities

The Board of Zoning Appeals (commonly called the BZA) is a five member board which consists of members from the Plan Commission and other appointed citizen members. The BZA is responsible to approve any variances, special use, and conditional uses from the zoning ordinance.
